Mercedes Sprinter Wheels: The Ultimate Guide to the Right Choice

The Mercedes Sprinter is an icon among vans. Whether you use it as a work vehicle, camper or expedition rig — the right wheels make a difference in appearance, handling and safety. In this guide we answer the seven questions we get asked most often about Sprinter wheels.

Which Sprinter generation do I have?

The Sprinter comes in three generations, and they determine which wheels fit:

  • Sprinter I (1995-2006) — the classic Sprinter. PCD 5×130.
  • Sprinter II (2006-2018) and Sprinter III (2018-present) — from 2006 onwards Mercedes switched to PCD 6×130. Visually, II and III differ in headlights and grille, but when it comes to wheels they share the same size.

Build year determines everything. Not sure? Your registration document or a photo of a bolt via WhatsApp is enough.

What PCD does the Mercedes Sprinter have?

The PCD determines whether a wheel physically fits:

  • Sprinter 1995-2006: 5×130 — five bolts on a 130 mm pitch.
  • Sprinter 2006-present: 6×130 — six bolts on the same 130 mm pitch. It shares this with the VW Crafter I (2006-2017). A fairly unique size you mainly find on heavy vans.

What is the correct offset and center bore for my Sprinter?

For the Sprinter 2006-present, the standard offset is between ET51 and ET60. The ET (offset) determines how far the wheel sits in or out of the wheel arch — a wrong value causes rubbing or unstable handling. The center bore is 84.1 mm; center bore rings can reduce a larger center bore, but can't make it smaller. The Rogue wheels that Loodys stocks for the Sprinter are calibrated to these specs as standard, so you don't need to hunt for loose parts.

What inch size fits a Sprinter?

The standard is 16 inch — the widest tyre choice, the most comfort on rough roads and the most affordable option. 17 inch gives a sportier look with slightly more direct handling. 18 inch is possible and looks great on camper conversions, but be aware that comfort drops slightly due to lower tyre sidewalls. For anyone driving off-road or on gravel tracks, 16 inch is the recommendation.

What load index should I choose for a loaded Sprinter?

The Sprinter can carry substantial loads — work vehicles often have around 3,500 kg permitted gross weight, campers sometimes even higher. The load capacity per wheel and per tyre together must handle at least the permitted axle weight. The Rogue wheels we stock for the Sprinter have a load capacity up to 1,500 kg each — well within margin for the heaviest Sprinters. At Loodys we always check before delivery whether the combination you choose is correct for your license plate, so you know it will pass your MOT.

Does a Crafter wheel also fit a Sprinter?

Yes and no — it depends which Crafter. The VW Crafter I (2006-2017) shares PCD 6×130 and offset values with the Sprinter 2006+. Wheels for Sprinter II or III therefore fit directly on the Crafter I. The VW Crafter II (2017-present), by contrast, has PCD 5×120 and requires different wheels — which it shares with the MAN TGE. For the Crafter II you'll find the range in our Crafter II / MAN TGE collections.

What should I know if I want to convert my Sprinter into a camper?

More and more Sprinters are being converted to campers. With a camper build, three points to watch:

  • Load capacity after conversion — a fully equipped camper is heavier than an empty van; we check whether your combination still sits within the permitted axle weight on your license plate.
  • All-terrain tyres — for those who also explore unpaved roads or wild camping spots.
  • TPMS sensors — mandatory for Sprinters from 2018 onwards for MOT purposes; we install and configure them in one visit at our Nieuwegein location.
